MELVI 2017: PROFESSOR PAOLO FIAMMA FROM UNIVERSITY OF PISA FEATURING AS ONE OF THE RAPPORTEURS
APC was not the only remarkable Italian participant to MELVI 2017: Professor Paolo Fiamma, Scientific Director of the University of Pisa DESTeC Department (Energy, Systems, Territory and Construction Engineering), was one of the many prominent speakers attending. Professor Fiamma talked about the research “Il Turismo in Libertà – strategia integrata per lo sviluppo sostenibile del territorio” realised in cooperation with APC, and subject of a book that will be published as a University of Pisa-APC shared edition. As already anticipated by Professor Fiamma at Salone del Camper 2016, “the mobility concepts, en-plein-air life, and interaction with the territory are innate in the DNA of Tourism in Freedom. Its characteristics of flexibility and adaptability make it able to convey to its users a renewed feeling of wellbeing and equilibrium, that in turn effectively creates a sustainable attitude”. Hence, en-plein-air tourism is a conscious form of mobility, exactly because motorhomes best embody the principles of sustainability, seen as the capability to protect and develop places and communities. En-plein-air travelling is certainly the expression of a type of tourism which respects places, and not only means to explore them, but mainly aims at getting to know them deeply and connecting with them totally and completely. These are the features characterising a “slow” tourism, a tourism which is different from quick getaways, very popular nowadays especially in many cities of art.
